Provenance Needed
To get a Search Confirmation, you must provide at least the current ownership details:
- type of collection,
- location,
- date of acquisition.
Early provenance details are recommended, especially for high-risk categories (e.g., pre-WWII works or antiquities). Without sufficient provenance, confirmation cannot be issued.
Timeframe
Results are typically in real time. Complex cases, especially involving wartime looting or cultural property, may take between two and 10 days. Providing complete and accurate info speeds up the process.
Ensuring Integrity
No confirmation is given based on incomplete info. If further research is needed, ArtAttest will notify you and clarify any costs in advance.

If an item you search for is confirmed as being listed on the “ArtSAFE database” or is subject to a valid claim, our contract obligates you to cooperate in returning the item to its rightful owner or resolving any related claim.
Typically, we will ask you to keep the item until an agreement is reached.
